Folsom Street:We are honored to be selected as a supporting beneficiary by Folsom Street Events for 2017. We are required to provide volunteers for 2 events. Right now we have have 13 of our 20 volunteers needed for Up Your Alley on Sunday July 30th, and we have 8 of our 30 volunteers signed up so far for Folsom Street Fair on Sunday September 24th. Here is a link about the events and volunteering –
This is a big opportunity for us. We are the only new Beneficiary for 2017. We are honored they picked us this year. Folsom Street Events (FSE) supports our community, support our causes, and include us when we have cross over issues with sexual expression, de-stigmatization efforts, decriminalization. We have common interest. That’s is why it is so important to take this opportunity to come out and volunteer for these events. And we can expect to see up to a $7000 donation!
You can find out more about the different kinds of volunteer shifts and volunteer perks at http://tinyurl.com/fsevolunteers. If you are interested in volunteering and supporting ESPLERP let our Volunteer Coordinator –
(Claire Alwyne – firstname.lastname@example.org)
– know that you are interested and she can let you know what shifts are available. Other Beneficiaries are getting volunteers signed up, so we need to move fast…
Californians For Equality: Board members Reada and Maxine attended Californians For Equality lobbying day in Sacramento on May 12th. There were at least 150 people in attendance from all over the state representing many organizations. We specifically lobbied to pass SB 239 which would make HIV the same status as other STDs, a misdemeanor. It’s not exactly what we want, (and will get it in the end), but it will also do away with mandatory testing when folks are arrested for prostitution. We met many of the folks from groups who signed on to our brief as amicus briefs like Scott Schoettes from Lambda Legal shown below with Maxine.
and many others like Danny Cruz from SWOP LA and Rick Johnson of SWOP Sac.
Tilt was sold to Airbnb so we’ve taken up residence at a new online fundraiser at
