Join the Erotic Service Providers Legal, Education and Research Project and Sex Workers Outreach Project Sacramento in hosting an online special presentation by UCLA Law Students panelist who will discuss their report “Tracing Criminalization: Policing and Prosecution in LA, 2017-2019”.
This important dataset collected from public records request focuses on all misdemeanors and infractions issued in Los Angeles between October 31, 2017 and October 30, 2019. Countless citations were issued for crimes that are, in the authors’ view, entirely harmless. This dataset also reveals enormous racial disparities in the issuance of these citations, in particular against the city’s Black population. As we collectively decide what role, if any, police will play in our future, it’s important to see how Los Angeles law enforcement has used their resources in the recent past.
Our hope that by providing a platform for the law students’ research, we can help provide a key resource for the ongoing mobilization efforts to change these systems failed approach to criminalization.
This webinar requires registration for participants to ask questions. Participants will be provided a link to the report.
